The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has sworn deputies, including some who are part-time, that make up the Sheriff’s Office. These officers serve in the department’s five major component units or divisions.

Patrol Division: The largest and most frequently observed division is the Deputy Patrol Division. Patrol is responsible for answering calls for service, executing warrants, initiating crime investigations, and maintaining order.

Civil Process Division: The next most visible division in the Sheriff’s Office is the Civil Process Division. These uniformed officers are responsible for the service of all Civil Process in the county including writs, summonses, mandates, or other documents issuing from a court of law.  

Criminal Investigations Division: This division is responsible for the investigation of all serious crimes including robberies, homicides, sexual assaults, forgeries, breaking and entering, and major larcenies.

Court Security Division: This division is responsible for the safety and orderly conduct in all three county criminal courts.

Crime Prevention Division: This division proactively encompasses all of our educational and prevention efforts towards reducing crime in the County of Augusta.

Fire Rescue Recruit, Technician I, Technician II

Augusta County Fire-Rescue is a combination system responding from 17 stations protecting Virginia’s second largest county. We have an authorized level of 141 FTE’s, plus part-time personnel. Career personnel staff 13 of the 17 stations. We offer both 24-hour and Monday to Friday day shift assignments. ACFR team members typically staff engine and BLS/ALS units throughout our combination system. Additionally, two central county stations staff truck/ladder company, HAZMAT, and heavy squad company.

Firefighter/EMT Recruit: $42,777

Fire-Rescue Technician I: $47,216 - $73,389

Fire-Rescue Technician II: $49,606 - $77,104

Incentives available on Base Salary for ALS/HM/TRT Certifications Additional 24-Hour Shift Overtime of approximately $3,500 annually

Firefighter / EMT Recruit will be assigned to recruit academy and attend Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazardous Materials Operations, EVOC 3, ITR 2, Vehicle Rescue 1, and Mayday training. Upon successful graduation from the recruit academy, the Recruit will complete the EMS precepting and release process. Upon successful EMS release, the Recruit will be eligible to transition to a Fire-Rescue Technician I.

Fire-Rescue Technician I requires a current VDFP / ProBoard / IFSAC Firefighter 2, Virginia EMT or higher (NREMT), EVOC 3, & valid driver’s license recognized by Virginia with an acceptable driving record.

  • Preference is given for Fire / EMS work experience, vehicle rescue 1, MAYDAY training, and released EMS provider.
  • Graduation from a recognized Recruit Academy is accepted.

Fire-Rescue Technician II requires a minimum of Technician I plus Driver Pumper Operator (DPO) and/or:

  • Advanced EMT (VAOEMS) 
  • Hazardous Materials Technician (VDEM)
  • Technical Rescue Credentials (VDFP)

Augusta County is a participating agency with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management’s (VDEM) Region 2 Technical Rescue Team and Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team. All ACFR personnel are afforded training and career development training opportunities to participate with these regional response teams and pursue Advanced Level EMS certification.
