To purchase a dog tag (license) you need a valid rabies vaccination certificate from your veterinarian. 

It is easy to purchase a dog tag through our online customer portal. You will be able to access your dog license purchases and history through your customer service portal account.

You can also purchase tags in these ways:

• Mail a valid rabies vaccination certificate for the dog, along with a spay/neutered certificate if applicable, to the Treasurer's Office, PO Box 590, Verona, Virginia 24482.
• Visit the Treasurer's Office at the Government Center, 18 Government Center Lane in Verona. 

One year tags and kennel dog tags expire on January 31st of each year. A dog owner is required to renew the dog license (for a one year or kennel tag) in the month of January every year. 

A three year license runs concurrent with the rabies certificate, you will be required to renew this license when your rabies certificate expires.

You must have an updated rabies vaccination for your dog on file with your vet.

If the dog's rabies vaccination expires before the new license year begins, a copy of a current vaccination certificate must be submitted with the renewal form. 

Augusta County dog tags are permanent tags. This means that the numbered tag you are issued at the time of original purchase will be the one you keep every year unless it is lost, stolen or destroyed. 

If you purchase a dog tag through our online customer portal, once you create your account, you can login to the same account the next time you update your rabies vaccination and need to renew your tag. You will be paying to renew that numbered tag.

If you renew online, you will be able to access your dog license history. Otherwise, please keep your paper receipts for each renewal for your own records.
