Alex joined the Augusta County Commonwealth’s Attorney's Office in June 2015. She became Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney, along with her Co-Deputy, Lorna Port, in 2018. She prosecutes a wide range of felonies and misdemeanors from murder all the way down to traffic offenses. She has developed specialized expertise in the prosecution of violent crime (including murder, felony assault, and rape), child sexual abuse, child neglect and physical abuse, and cases involving the abuse, neglect and exploitation of the elderly and persons with special needs. Prior to joining the office, Alex served as a law clerk for Chief Justice Donald W. Lemons of the Supreme Court of Virginia. Between college and law school, Alex worked for four years as the youth programs director of a grassroots non-profit organization on Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. Alex is a member of the Augusta/Staunton/Waynesboro Multidisciplinary Taskforce for Child Abuse. She has provided domestic violence training to local law enforcement officers and has served as a Judicial Proceedings Content Instructor in local area Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training. Alex has also completed specialized training in a variety of areas, including cold case and no body homicides, forensic interviewing, sexual assault nurse examinations, strangulation, adult non-stranger sexual assault, domestic violence, juvenile court practice and procedure, child abuse, economic crimes, and DUIs.

Lorna joined the Augusta County Commonwealth's Attorney's office in February 2016. Before becoming an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, she served as a Magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia in Prince George and Henrico counties. During law school, Lorna volunteered with the Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, Project Horizon, and Blue Ridge Legal Services, earning an award for extraordinary public service. She served in the United States Army from 2003 to 2009, and worked as an analyst with the Department of Defense between college and law school. Lorna specializes in the prosecution of adult sexual assault cases, drug related crimes, and animal control cases.
