As of July 1, 2020, voters do not need a reason to apply for an absentee mail ballot. You can apply online for an absentee ballot with a Virginia driver's license. If you do not have a Virginia driver's license, you may apply using a printed application. Absentee and Early Voting - VA Department of Elections
If you have submitted an absentee ballot application for a ballot to be sent by mail, you can track your ballot by logging into Ballot Scout.
To Vote by Absentee Ballot, Follow These Steps:
- You can apply online for an absentee ballot with a Virginia driver's license. If you do not have a Virginia driver's license, you can apply using a printed application (see below).
Download the Absentee Ballot Application and complete ALL fields, including whether or not you need assistance casting your ballot, and all requested personal information. The applications are also available in the Voter Registration Office. - Return the application to the Office of Voter Registration. If you are voting absentee by mail, the application must be received in our office NO LATER than 5:00PM on October 25, 2024. If you are voting absentee in person, you must do so NO LATER than 5:00PM on the Saturday (November 2, 2024) before the election in the South Board Room located at the Government Center in Verona.
In-person absentee voting begins at the Government Center on September 20, 2024 - November 2, 2024, Monday through Friday from 8am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm (closed from 1pm to 2pm). You can also vote on Saturday, October 26, 2024 and November 2, 2024, from 9am-5pm. The deadline to vote In Person, No Excuse will be 5:00 pm on November 2, 2024. See more info on the main page.
The Following Steps Apply to Absentee Voting By Mail Only:
- Once you receive your ballot mark the ballot using the Ballot Guide that is included in your ballot packet, place the ballot in Envelope “B” and seal the envelope. Be sure to completely fill out Envelope “B”, sign the envelope, and include the last four of your social security number and your year of birth.
- Once your ballot has been sealed, and Envelope B has been completely filled out, place Envelope B in the return envelope provided and mail it to the Augusta County Electoral Board. To ensure your ballot is counted, make sure the return envelope is post marked on or before November 5, 2024 and must be received by the Augusta County Electoral Board by Noon on November 8, 2024.
Absentee Voting for Military Personnel, their Families and Other Overseas Voters
An eligible U.S. citizen, my register to vote and request an absentee ballot on the same Federal Post Card Application. You are entitled to complete a Federal Post Card Application if, by reason of active duty or employment, you are normally absent from the city or county in which you reside under the following conditions:
- Any member of a uniformed service of the United States, as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1973ff-6(7), who is active duty
- Any member of the merchant marine of the United States
- Any person who resides temporarily outside of the United States by virtue of employment
- Any spouse or dependent residing with a person who may register under any on of the preceding three conditions
- Overseas citizen (federal elections only)
